Uphill Travel Policy

We are closed and actively working on the developed runs to get terrain (especially Paradise Basin) ready for the next open day of skiing. We have snowmakers running, the winch cat operating, new drivers being trained, and staff working hard running equipment and supplies up and down the mountain.

Per our uphill travel policy, travel is prohibited when the area is closed.

If you absolutely must take a tour, only travel on the established uphill travel route near the boundary and ski down on un-developed terrain. Do not come down the Cascade and Main Street cat tracks. Expect and be on the lookout for staff in machinery and stay well away from all buildings and groomed runs. Steer clear of snowmaking equipment.

It is IMPERATIVE that you staff off of the runs leading to Couloir express for your own safety.  Winch cables will be in use and may not be visible as they can hang up under the snow and snap like rubber band being released. We are working hard to get this chair operational by next weekend but need your cooperation to do so.

Winter Uphill Travel Policy:

Uphill travel at White Pass Ski Area is allowed for those who have acquired our UPHILL TRAVEL PASS.

The UPHILL TRAVEL PASS is available at our Ski Patrol Clinic Building from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm.

RULES FOR UPHILL TRAVEL PASS HOLDERS:

  1. Uphill travel is allowed from 8:45am to 4:30pm on days we are open

  1. The uphill travel route is on the permit area's east-most boundary.

  1. Uphill travel is prohibited during all other hours and all other routes.

This change was brought about by increased after-hours operations and more guests on the hill.  Operations include avalanche control, snowmaking, fleet grooming, lift maintenance, and winch cat grooming.  Each of these operations creates unique hazards that may result in severe injury or death.

On days that we cannot operate, uphill travel is closed, due to avalanche control and other operations being performed during normal business hours.

Please help White Pass keep everyone safe by adhering to this new uphill Travel policy.

UPHILL TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Please follow these simple requirements to ensure the safety of all White Pass skiers, riders, and staff.   Failure to comply will result in being escorted from the ski area and permanently trespassed from the White Pass Ski Area.

NOTE: Uphill travel is intended for human-powered skiing only. Those who skin up, and attempt to load our lifts will be charged with Theft of Services.

  • The only approved run for uphill travel is HOLIDAY and it is only approved from 8:45 am until 4 pm.  Consult our trail map.

  • The hiker must stay to the extreme left of Holiday (east side of the run)

  • Stay clear of all ski area vehicles, snowmaking, and equipment

  • Give right of way to all downhill traffic

  • Please be aware of the constant potential for avalanches; always let someone off the mountain know your travel plan and estimated return time, and be educated on all back-country protocols.
